Here’s how to make bread the simplest, easiest way. Bread has evolved so much since the ancient Egypt. From easy methods to more complicated ones, we have been enjoyed many kind of breads but the simple flatbread still stand strong as one of our beloved staples.
I this recipe, have your choice of plain thin flatbread or a flavorful one with herby garlic butter spread. These flatbreads are great by itself or use as wraps with fillings or you may top them with meat and vegetables. There’s no wrong or best way to eat them. What I used:
* Flour:
* Pastry cutter/scraper
Easy Thin Flatbread
Total time: 45 mins
Serving: 6 pieces of bread
Calories: 145/serving ; with butter spread: 210
Cost: 0.19/serving ; with butter spread: 0.28
Ingredients:
+ For the bread:
1 ½ cup (188g) all-purpose flour
½ tsp (3g) Kosher salt
2 TBS (30 mL) Olive oil
½ cup (118 mL) water, plus 1 tsp (5mL) if feel dry
+ For the herby garlic butter spread:
4-5 TBS (57 – 70g) butter, melted
½ tsp (0.5g) thyme
¼ tsp (0.6g) pepper
½ tsp (0.8g) garlic powder
Some salt, if use salted butter, skip this
Instructions:
1. Add flour, salt, Olive oil, water in a mixing bowl
2. Mix with a fork then lightly knead so they form a ball
3. Knead on a clean surface for 2-3 minutes or until smooth
4. Divide into 6 pieces
5. Pull and pinch then roll to form each into a small ball
6. Rest for 15 minutes
7. Flour a clean surface, your hands and the roller; roll each ball into 6-8 inch round dough
8. Heat a nonstick pan over medium heat for 2-3 minutes
Note: if you use the garlic butter spread, make it now. Melt butter and mix all ingredients together.
9. Place 1 dough at a time, cook until puff up (just at some spots, not the entire dough) with some brown spots in the bottom, flip to other side, wait until puff up again, remove from heat.
Note: if using the garlic butter spread, after flipping in the pan, brush the cooked side with butter; brush the other side after removing from heat.
10. Repeat with the rest of the dough.
11. Serve warm.
