I had the.exact problem yet I only have rain water and secondly I have the plant in a green house because of the 1.2metres of rain . I've had the plant for 5 year haas. I transplanted it in the green house 2years ago so pulled the tree out to find the roots had not grown and was dry as a bone. Yet I had lots of young green leaves. Now transplanted outside again . I feed it with iron shelate by the way.. I'd say lack of water too can bring brown tips.

I'm having that issue with my Holiday avocado tree which is still in a wood 25 gallon pot. I will be planting it this spring. My home is hooked up to a water softener system, but not my outside landscape water. Will this take care of the brown tip problem if I use the treated water softener system.
