So many Jews eating treif
Now that the wooster street joints are chaining out all over the northeast its definitely lost its appeal.
Is no one going to comment on the fact that there was something called "The National Folding Box Company" – LOL.
One bite everyone knows the rules!
Great documentary, too bad about Henry Winkler . . . he has the politics of a child, typical hollywood libtrad.
Here right now pretty good but I’m a New Yorker
I spent some time in a group home called the Hamden children's center, in Hamden CT, right on the border of newhaven. We used to get pizzas from peppi's every Friday night. They donated them. Best pizza ever!
I gotta make it to New Haven!
we live in the UK in a small town named Colchester and there is a new haven style pizza shop there called Finezza, my wife says its the best pizza she has ever had, the family that own it are from new haven.
damn I would love to try those places! I had pizza in several Italian cities a few years ago and nothing has ever come close
This is great.
"Whys is it burnt?"
So funny.
I am Pepe's guy.
I go to Sally's when the line at Pepe's gets too long and it is freezing cold outside, and the little outer waiting area is full at Pepe's.
I was born in New Haven Cty, in a suburb.
My brother went to Yale.
I live on West coast now.
Peru didn't have a King and that's not how Italy got tomatoes. San Marzano tomatoes didn't exist in Italy until centuries later. That historian needs some fact checking.
The prez is the only real expert everyone knows the rules
Henry Winkler at 1:06:57. I still remember him from a little known film called The Lords of Flatbush in 1974.
It is interesting the debates. Pizza from Portland OR. Five types of pizza found in Chicago. New Haven. New York and boroughs. California pizza. And there are other styles. What is your favorite style of pizza and which pizzeria?
Mass Italian immigration to New Haven CT in early 20th century. In Hamilton Ontario Canada there are at least 30,000 citizens who can trace their ancestry to Racalmuto Sicily. They came after World War II and worked in construction, textiles, steel mills and general trades. There were also many people who came from Calabria. With that came all the good food. So there are today many Italians in Hamilton today. We have bakeries, restaurants, food stores and pizza places that came with all that immigration decades ago.
It's not burnt. It's caramelized.
This is an amazing testament to New Haven pizza! I love this video. I am looking forward to the video series on other New Haven pizzerias! Thanks for putting this out.
The char is common to most proper pizza ovens and Italian pizza almost always has some… the New Haven way is fusion of Italian simplicity and American “excess” …. Right?
still not bar pie tho
This was great!
We need New Haven representatives in Georgia.
I've never tried it but it looks great
they did have pizza before tomatoes, many European countries had their own version as well.
I haven't wanted to go to New York until I watched this video.
No one in the world knew about New Haven till the Pres blew through .
How ironic that a film raising funds for children also supports the theft of baby cows from their mothers and the suffering it causes.
4:54 "…made due with very few resources. They were very ingenious in what they cooked."
Want to try the best food in any culture? Find the poor people. Doing what you can with what you have is a common theme I've noticed for the beginnings of great food, for everything from soul food to pizza.
bougie pizza…..oh excuse me….boomer apizza…lol…
Salerno's in Stratford is better than all the New Haven places
It IS a cult, and one I’m proud to be a member of. Sally’s forever.
How about Naples, the City, no pizza anywhere on Earth comes close. End of Story,
so why aren't these joints called "abeetzerrias"? makes no sense. new england is stuck in a time warp. probably the least progressive area of the US. great pizza. wouldn't want to live there
Wait…..that isn't Fonzie?
Burned garbage
pizza is mentioned in the Aeneid this guys doesnt know what he is talking about, so what if they didnt have tomatoes they still made pizza
pizza was make by greece not pendejos italianos lol
A lovely, gentle documentary. Great old photographs. Thank you.
bare hand spreading the sauce grossed me out!
Calling it "Apizza" is enough for me to pass.
