The concrete floor will absorb most of the heat from the heat mats. I put mine on a wire frame shelf, works much better.
Those will be fine just put a light on them
I get the part of heat and humidity, the confusing part is the moisture. Primarily how much to wet the soil, many so called experts say you don't want a wet mix but sometimes the soil dries up when it's on the heat mat. What am I not getting?
Unwrapping would have stopped legginess?
I've got a big roll of that also. So what do u think about kinda Makin a homemade greenhouse with it. Maybe big enough for 3 or 4 162 trays. If u could make it with a door or something do u think that plastic would work? My problem is I've only got so many grow lights and heat mats and all that is done inside the house. So once my transplants get good and growing I'd like to take em outside but it's not warm enough all the time yet I don't think. I live about 45mins south of ATL Newnan ga

Hi. Starting seeding this year and I’m a little confused. Does it matter how many times you wrap the layers of plastic over the tray? Just once, twice, 3 times etc. Does it change from types of seed you use? Thanks.
I am able to transplant watermelons from seed in 3 weeks (three true-leaf stage).

Been covering my seed flats with plastic wrap for years. I check them every day and when I see green is when I remove the wrap.

Never needed any cover for my seed starting thus far. Just water them when media starts to dry due to light and heat mat. I know it’s about saving time but, if you don’t keep an eye on a high humidity setup, then damping off can wipe them out fast. Might try some like that.
I would try a large clear tote for the tray size 8" inches tall over the seedlings should work just as good.
You didn't catch a fish and screwed up the watermelons. No time for fishing Mr. Greg. LOL
Got to use less plastic in this world. Maybe some old window glass would be better. I know it isn't nearly as convenient, but we are now all breathing micro bits of plastic. Just saying…
I have been doing this for a couple of years. I started covering in plastic wrap when I was starting seeds in solo cups because I didn't have a humidity dome for the cups. I also figured out, for those that don't want to waste plastic and are starting in cups, that I could use the clear party favor bags on the cups and reuse them the next time.
Insult to injury: No Fish!

Germinating inside can be tricky sometimes, maybe with more strict environmental controls its easier. I bring my seed trays into my bedroom and on top of my playstation or an old laptop I don't use anymore for heat, but sometimes they do it overnight and turn out 2 inches high on translucent stems, (which happened with my marigolds, but not the tomatoes I had with them just a week ago). Does that mean its too warm? I would guess its around 80-85 between the room and heatsource.

What a shame, I would NOT throw those watermelons away, instead replant in a much deeper container/barrel and I bet they can be saved.

I haven’t used enough. I only have to 2 sprouting. I have very little moisture under plastic. Tomatoes and peppers. So should I remove plastic wrap it’s been three days. Mine aren’t like that.
Okay then I will remove from tomatoes and leave over peppers for two more days.

Your seeds are rotting in those trays wrapped so good, they need to be able to breath some, i dont use those here in Florida
