Sugar is Not a Treat | Jody Stanislaw | TEDxSunValley
Sugar is hiding everywhere in today’s widely-accepted diet, but meanwhile its devastating effects are creating more deaths than automobile accidents. In this eye-opening talk, Dr. Jody Stanislaw, a Naturopathic Doctor who has been studying the negative effects of sugar since being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 7, dives into how the widespread negative effects of sugar are effecting us all, and what you can do about it. Dr. Jody Stanislaw received her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine in 2007. She is a Certified Diabetes Educator, Type 1 Diabetes Specialist, and a founding board member of the Low Carb Diabetes Association. Having lived with Type 1 Diabetes since the age of seven, she has dedicated her career to helping others with Type 1. From her 30+ years of experience, she teaches life-changing information about how to successfully manage Type 1 that most physicians have never learned, and the millions struggling with Type 1 desperately need to know.
Patients from over thirty states and ten countries have worked with her via her virtual practice. Yet there are millions around the world still struggling. To tackle this gap, she will soon be launching the first-ever, Type 1 diabetes virtual training course, with the goal of improving the lives of millions of Type 1’s around the world. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at

Uova a colazione?
Un bicchiere d'acqua?
La stevia?
Ok… grazie del contributo ma credo che la naturopatia mi possa aiutare come m'aiuterebbe Terminator.🤨
1. If God didn’t make it don’t eat it.
2. If man changed it don’t eat it.
3. Don’t let food be your God.
i was going to watch this video but i cannot because of her lip smacking noises
And in the last 4-5 years since this was posted we have not only continued on the path but have spiked even further in the opposite direction with body positivity. Originally BP was a call to stop bullying people for their size and reorienting unrealistic beauty standards. But it has morphed into complete denial of scientific/medical facts and considering any criticism of diet or any mention of overweight to being unhealthy as “fatphobic”
The US is truly on the track to becoming WALL-E
Between the sugar and processed carbs, the processed and carcinogenic poison laden meats that people eat, inflammatory diet (made of seed oils), pesticide and herbicides in all the crops, heavy metal and plastics in the fish…. We have completely polluted our planet and our bodies. Coupled with a more sedentary life, we are becoming a sicker and sicker society.
Believe me, 10 years ago this was the same.
Yes it is
I am on Keto, feel great, no more desire for sugar 🙂
You can now add the fact that a diet high in refined carbs leaves you at a much greater risk of getting severely ill if you get Covid-19.
Nonsense, your brain can only work on sugar. Just eat a good diet, and enjoy sweets moderately. To not "burn out" your beta cells simply sleep well, take some vitamin C and enjoy your life. These naturpathic doctors sell you on fear, in fact she mentions that it's not an issue but she skips over it at 5:15 briefly. Nonsense presentation.
She looks like she had a couple of bottles of whisky before lecturing people about how bad it is and stuff
I gave up sugar and most carb almost 2 months ago. I don't really miss them. Day 3 I cried about bread and was fine until day 8, cried about bread, stayed strong. After day 8 was totally fine, you just have to get over the hump. You will get a little sick, but it gets better.
I don't know why people are commenting that they're taking her advice. She had type 1 diabetes at 7. She had a rare immune disorder. If you don't have that sugar and carbs are great to eat. We've been eating them since the dawn of time.
Please drink a water before your next speech. I cannot tolerate the lip smacking
I have a great grandmother who’s 104. There is a reason she lived so long.
They load kids up with sodas and then prescribe them antipsychotics for being hyper. This is all by design. An attack on humanity
I really feel like I have to start my healthy lifestyle from today itself.
As I sit here eating sugar..
The pain of regret is far worse than the pain of discipline
What is about sugar out of fruits?
I'm not sure how to process this as someone with ARFID (an eating disorder that causes you to only want to eat certain foods) For me sometimes the only things I'm able to eat are things that are full of sugar… Eating a bowl of mac n cheese is better than eating nothing. I also struggle to cook for myself so the convenience of foods matters a lot to me as well. But diabetes runs in my family and I've noticed myself having some symptoms lately that could go hand in hand with diabetes… I'm just not sure that I'd be able to make myself eat healthier things. I am likely autistic as well and I hear that a lot of autistic people struggle to eat healthy.
I thought this talk was going to go some where else because of the title but Yes Suger is a treat.
Can I have rice for lunch and vege, meat only for dinner?
False lol
When I was 25 I came across William Dufty’s book “Sugar Blues” he was so convincing and I immediately cut out all added sugars. When Dr William Davis published his “Wheat Belly” in 2011, I was still eating bread and pasta not realising that too much of it was as bad as sugar! So I cut that out too. It was difficult
Such a GOOD talk, if it weren't for the very end, when she said she uses stevia to sweeten her cookies. *facepalm*
The only sugar you need is in fruit.
Pasta actually has a very low glycemic level. Hence it doe snot spike blood sugar levels abruptly. Considering some honourable exceptions (e.g. carbonara), and depending on the sauce/veggies you use, it's a pretty healthy food, especially whole grain pasta. The quantity plays an important role. The rest of this presentation was perfect to me. She's very professional and conveys the important key message in a very approachable manner. Thank you.
I find it interesting that I wasn't eating bread and pasta and I gained so much weight and I got a hyperinsulinemic disorder and when my doctor gave me a diet that included pasta/rice/barley for lunch and bread for dinner I felt better and lost 45 pounds. Also, if I eat proteins only I get heartburn so bad that I am unable to function. How do you explain that?
"Sugar is not a treat".
Shhhh….let people enjoy things
100 true a deadly virus worse than corona. i was a diabatic now controld and feel new… true fact
Her body doesn’t look like someone who avoids sugar..
A family member just said that they were going on a no-sugar diet to see how that works for them. I'm seriously thinking of trying it myself. As someone who has sugar every day… I sadly can't even imagine NOT having it
Me: brain, heart, pancreas.
Her: lungs.
Me: oh darn it I forgot lungs!
Keto for the last 9 months so ya I got pancreas no problem 😊
Hundreds of great speakers say stop the sugar but being addicted to sugar with zero self control, more is needed. I had the habit of going next door and buying 2 pints of BlueBell ice cream. ZERO self control.
I feel like I've finally found a solution. When I get the urge for ice cream I imagine it covered with motor oil or dog vomit. That instantly dissolves the urge.
It took me a few days to realize I could do that for ANY over eating and it is working.
I only eat one meal a day. Meat, eggs, cheese, sauerkraut.
This has been painless, effortless, quick and effective.
I feel so calm and filled with gratitude at my good fortune.
Read the ingredient label. It's listed in order of the most to the least. The sugar content can be hidden as fructose, glucose (anything "ose"), or syrup etc. it repeats throughout the ingredients list.
